Wow, sounds like you had a great time. I was worried that the six-speed
would wind up being a project that never got completed, and the bike would
end up just a crate-load of parts.

Subject: Break-in : 344km ride update
Good morning folks. Well the 1st inspection went without a glitch, all
systems ready for action. Sunday, I loaded the beast with cargo & passenger
& proceeded on to do the next stage of the break-in process. The next
inspection, oil\filter change....due at 300km. We did highway 208km's worth
of highway & 136km of country backroads. I even got to feel the ABS kick in
when an ignorant bast#*d in a car on the oncoming lane in the backroads
decided that he prefered my lane over his lane at the same time it was in
use by, ME. Well, the ABS is surprisingly responsive & efficient at
scrubbing velocity with exteme ease. Yamaha did a great job. Thank you
Yamaha. I also got to tune in the rear Ohlin's. I ended up giving the remote
spring preload adjuster 4 1\2 turns & 3 clicks on the rebound adjuster. It
feels wonderful & the passenger liked it enough that nap time settled in
before long. I didn't do anything on the front damper yet . That's for the
next ride. The 6 speed gear box works flawlessly as well. Since I'm doing
break-in, I'm relegated to a max. of 4500rpm. Even so, I never found myself
over shooting my rev limit or even in a lugging situation even with the
luggage & passenger on board. The passenger was very cozy & never a bother,
which is quite welcome on any motorcycle . On the highway the GTS was
planted, confident, light on its feet & it wanted go faster\longer than it
was allowed to. The aerodynamics are very impressive as wind is not really a
bother. The seating positiong although on the sporty side is quite
accomodating. The seat is on the hard side but I wasn't really tired, just a
slight case of soar butt when it was all over. Recovery was remarkably
quick. In the backroads I was able to keep quite a comfortable pace which is
another susprising feature which I wasn't really expecting. My GTS did
everything I wanted it to do willingly & with a big grin on its chin (I
could tell). The motor is still silky smooth & never complained regardless
of what gear selection was chosen. It hasn't consumed a drop of oil, yet
either. The ECU is keeping things quite happy as well. I still haven't felt
no power surge or flat spot anywhere from idle to the 4500 rpm limit in any
of the 6 gear selections available. I have found a couple of bizzarre
features, though. The clock is in the most ridiculous spot , it makes me
laugh, & I wonder why Yamaha didn't put self cancelling flashers like on my
FJ's. I'm so used to this feature that I got hell for leaving my flasher on
toooo loooong. Well, nothing's perfect. Only another feature to add. Other
than that, this is a a great great super great motorcycle. As far as street
touring & riding are concerned? IT DOESN'T GET BETTER THAN THIS??? The
Yamaha GTS 1000 is 1 UNIQUELY AWESOME RIDE. I'm HOOKED. Be good . Ride
Safe. Peter Piazza.
