A tip to anyone new to breaking the beads down on tires. If you are having
problems with the tire collapsing away from the bead as you attempt to break
it down, put some air in the tire to support the sidewalls. Ahhhhh, this
works well for one side, but what about the other side? You cannot put air
back in it because the bead is already broken. Glasshoppah, you think, but
not enough, you can put more air back in and let the tire seal on the side
you just broke down without seating the bead. One other tip, when you are
attempting to remove or install tires on the rims, make sure BOTH the top and
bottom beads are squeezed in the center of the rim opposite the side you are
working on. That is why they are drop center rims. It provides additional
clearance so you don't have to stretch the tire over the rim to remove or
install it. Some people try to do this by only putting the bead of the side
of the tire they are working on, which does not provide as much relief as
keeping both beads in the center does.
Good Luck,
