Uh....the first key didn't work! :^) Actually, I've experienced it only
once or twice in the past 8 years. It seems to be when you hesitate or just
don't get the key to turn cleanly. The engine will spin, spin, spin...but
no fire. Turn the key back to off, try again....varoom!

I had a similar experience.  What it ended up being was my ignition key was
worn.  The Gts has an anti theft device built into the ignition switch.  If
your key is worn or you turn the key to fast the bike thinks it is being
stolen and will not start. Hope this helps.
