If you ride long enough, experienced or not, you will eventually do a
panic grab of the brakes. Ask Kevin Hawkins how that works on Triumph
Daytonas (no ABS) when Bobcats run out in front of you...There are
places where ABS helps as RSRBOB pointed out already...Bob B.

ps mine was a car (entering from side street) and stopping in front of
me but I was on the GTS and the ABS definitely kicked in and probably
saved a tumble.

True, Joe.  And the simple physical fact is some of us Olde Phartes are
now/will soon be losing our reaction times, which means that locking a
brake, recognizing what we've done, unlocking, and re-applying can be
outside the realm of what we can do.
