I just bought a VisionTek GeForce3 for $242 a few weeks ago. Go to pricewatch.com. A good compromise is a Geforce3 Ti 200. It is under $200 and is only down about 9% in performance in gaming benchmarks when compared to the regular GeForce3.
You said that this person needed a Glide card. The last few Glide games (more than a year ago) also had D3D code also. If this person has some really old Glide only games they want to play, you can still find 12 MB Voodoo 1000's out there for under $40. They will need another card to run alongside the Voodoo as it is a pass thru card. - Walt -----Original Message----- From: GTS-1000 Owners List [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Crisler, Jon Sent: Monday, November 12, 2001 5:19 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Need Help with Computer Issue FLUFF For the video card, he should try to get the Best, which in this case would be something based on the Nvidia Geforce 3 chipset. However, this is like $300 and up. Second best would be something based on the Geforce 2 GTS, either in 32mb or 64mb flavor. The Geforce 2 GTS with 64mb should be about $200 to $250, although maybe as low at $150. Spending the money on the graphics card will actually save them money on the rest of the PC, because a good card takes on much of the processing power that the CPU would normally do (even using Direct 3d). This Nvidia does not make the cards, rather they make the chipsets/graphics processing units (GPU) and other makers build the cards using those chipsets and reference designs. So look for something based on the Nvidia Geforce 2 GTS. They can be found under almost all brands except those that use captive GPU's like ATI. The ASUS 7700 is sort of a generic brand card based on that chipset, available in 32 and 64mb flavors. -----Original Message----- From: Henry S. I have a young client who runs Win98SE. He wants a better video card--has to be AGP and be Dierect3D and Glide3D compatible. His computer is only about a year old. I believe it is an Intel P3/667 with 128 MB RAM. Any suggestions? (His parents would like less expensive rather than more expensive.) Also, how do gamers keep their machines from becoming corrupted...to the point of wiping the HD and re-installing everything...or do they simply wipe & reinstall at a scheduled time? Feel free to take this off list if you'd like. Many thanks, & Regards, Henry S.
