Peter, The stock handlebars are 7/8". I put the Heli bars on my '94 and seem to like them better. For handlebar weights, I installed the Throttlemeister "cruise control" bar-ends. They make a "Heavy" size option, which I chose. The Throttlemeister installed in less than 5 minutes, and the heavy weight does seem to help the vibration slightly. I love the cruise control aspect of it. It was $135 if I recall. The Heli bars only change the angle and the height of the bars slightly.
