Reading your comments below about the Scottoiler made me want to share the results of my chain lube experiment.
I replaced the chain 3000 miles ago and haven't added a drop of lubricant to it. I've had to adjust it one time, at 600 miles. It does not appear to be experiencing any significant wear.
