Rick: I took the road from the eastern entrance (love the old cop cars at each end of town with "black wooden silhouette cops" inside!) The Charles Kuralt drive toward route 90....red something or other. Only took the ride for 10 miles or so...then cut south east on the Chief Joseph Highway..it's not marked very well on most maps...gorgeous road both in terms of condition, no traffic and vistas. I never knew Wyoming had a canyon that reminded me of parts of the SW. A beautiful ride. Saw our Baby Grizzly about 50' of the road too... Joseph Pass is a very twisty ride up several thousand feet in a very short period...wished I had my bike then.
There's also a forest fire airborne history museum with active runway (still used for western fire fighting) if you have a bad summer, you'll see the tankers going back and forth. The rate of climb after they are topped off is quite scary...like maybe 100 feet per minute! Yellowstone is my favorite park so far. I've been going there for close to 25 years..before and after the fire. But on a bike....watch the east side roads...please go slow on most of your turns. It's not the tourists...it's the Bison. I saw three guys on cruisers heading off one morning. Two miles up I caught up to them...three bikes...20 feet between each in the middle of the road...surrounded by a herd of Bison who just happen to think it was time to cross the road. A helmet camera would have been neat at that point! But the female rider dropped a few skid marks in her panties I'm sure....these things were sniffing the bikes, nudging the tires/rims as they went by....pretty awesome...but I like the protection of an Odyssey for that close up stuff! I would love join you for other parts of the ride....so let me see how I can work out a traveling schedule Shawn P --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
