You want to be a little careful with the solvent - at least check with
Porsche. I had an '81 Dodge Ramcharger that had one of the first
plastic tanks (on US vehicles). They supposedly used some sort of
sealant which just happened to be soluble in some gasoline. (It's
always a bad sign when you have your truck towed to the dealer with 2480
miles on it). Tank was replaced twice, carb. 3 times, fuel pump 3 times
(I carried a spare), & fuel filters like they were chewing gum. By
running filters as pairs in parallel I got so I could get from one oil
change to the next. I took a filter to work, cut it open and sent the
crud inside to the chem lab - carbon black and long chain organic
molecules i.e. the black plastic tank (Steel mills don't have the
standards to identify unknown organics.

I still have the problem. I'm still looking and trying different
products. Up until now, ....I have relied on Techron and have used
others, like Chemtron. Chemtron with a touch of Mystery Oil seemed to
work the best. But, based on this latest recent input from the Additive
man, I will be looking at the ingredients on the label and I am getting
ready to stop by a Ford or Mitsubishi dealer to get a few cans of their
top product. Next is taking the gas tank off and cleaning it up on the
inside. It doesn't pay to neglect cars, motorcycles, or
women...........:>) It will only cost you more in the long run.
