Good morning Wendy. If I may? I have read your reports & a couple of reasons I can see
that you may need a cam is either the cam is completely worn out due to wear or
serious damage due to careless prior dissassembly\reassembly. Cams are made of some
pretty hard metals. If the cam was removed for a valve adjustment & not reinstalled
correctly then the motor may or may not start. But this will cause other difficulties
as well.Or the bike has been in a very bad accident & then the damage has had to have
gone all the way to the motor. I will presume that the motor cranks over nicely &
there is no internal\external damage. (Have you done a compression test?) The problem
you report is electrical & not mechanical & thus a new cam may not correct the
problem. A few things that come to mind are. Check all the the wiring harness. Unplug
the connectors & verify that are clean & in their respective sockets properly. Many
times they pop out a bit & they don't make the correct contact with their mating
partners. Corrsion is a culprit as well. It seems that you are getting power to the
essentials but your power is dropping off unexpectedly. It could be a lose or broken
wire in there somewhere. Make sure the plugs are plugged in all the way & that the
pins are not pushed in even a little. Make sure you have the correct battery & it is
in great shape & not only in good shape & fully charged. Another culprit can be the
ECU itself has developped a glitch. I also remember some posts on the wire harness
that passes into the fairing on the left side (I believe) was getting cut or damaged
due to rubbing on a sharp bracket under there & some extra cushioning is required so
that it doesn't wear itself out. You may want to verify all the electrical
possibilities before you order a cam which is a mechanical item & not electrical. good
luck. Keep us posted. Peter Piazza
