In my opinion, Rt. 550 is a must. It's a great, twisty road with lots of scenic views. You should try to ride it early in the morning because there are lots of double-yellows, and RV traffic can be a bit oppressive when you're trying to "get after it."
Rts. 145 and 62 in the area of Telluride are also excellent and wonderfully scenic roads and, at least in my experience, less travelled. Black Canyon of the Gunnison is Colorado's miniature version of the Grand Canyon and it's beautiful. You can actually ride a attention-getting spiral road all the way to the Gunnison river. From there you can head North on 92, and catch 133 at Hotchkiss which will take you to Carbondale, just north of Aspen. 82 south of Aspen is outstanding (crosses Independence Pass), 285 to 9 over Hoosier pass is also a beauty. Other than that, there really isn't much good riding around here. ;-) Seriously, I'm sure there's lots more that I've neglected. While you're here, eat lots of green chili for breakfast and keep a sharp eye out for mule deer on the road at dusk and dawn. Enjoy!
