A most excellent treat Mr. Hawkins! Well Done! -----Original Message----- From: Kevin Hawkins [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, April 01, 2002 10:45 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: A bad Easter morning...
Well, it was another beautiful day in the Carolinas yesterday as I embarked upon my usual Sunday morning ride up into the mountains. As I meandered up NC 89 on this morning I decided to pick up the pace a little so that I could be back in time for Easter lunch as I had family coming over. No sooner had I decided to air out the GTS on one of the straight aways, that an NC State trooper came around the bend approaching. I rolled off the throttle and glanced down to see the speedo dropping quickly past 100 mph. SHIT! I was even past him when he hit the lights. I glanced around in my side mirror to see him start his U-turn and had a very stupid thought....I can outrun him! What was I thinking? Well, it was only about 5 miles to the Va. state line and the rest of the road was very twisty with limited visibility so if caught I would simply claim that I didn't see him....right? Yep, that was my second stupid thought. Anyway, I was already in a bunch of trouble and my mind was spinning as I thought of the consequences if he caught me. I took that curvey piece of road with more speed than I could ever remember just hoping to find the Va. state line around the next bend. Instead, I rounded a corner with a long straightaway and saw ANOTHER cop heading my way! But I KNOW that the state line is coming up so I gunned it again. The oncoming cop slows WAY down as we come together and starts to block my lane!! He has his head hanging out of his window with his hand in the air yelling for me to stop as I grab a hand full of ABS and somehow miss his front bumper. NOW he has endangered MY life and I decide to push on a little farther for that elusive stateline. After a few more turns my senses get the best of me and I decided to pull over. As I'm sitting on the side of the road 4 police cars (1 local sheriff) pull up and charge at me! I put my hands in the air and they push me to the ground. I'm thankful that I was still wearing my helmet! Cuffed and sitting in the back of one of the police cars I couldn't believe the turn that my life had just taken. A 39 year old man with a beautiful family and another baby due at the end of this month being taken to jail and booked. When my wife arrived to post my bail later that afternoon we had no problem agreeing to one thing. I am no longer a motorcyclist! Insurance and the cost of the lawyer alone will set us back more than we can afford and that will be paid for with the sale of my 3 bikes. I've already sold the FZ750 but need to get rid of the GTS and ZRX immediately.
