Well, even though I ride a bike most days (my Kawasaki Stockman, on the
ranch with my dog sitting behind me), I don't get to ride the GTS as much as
I would like. So today, a beautiful Autumn day, I donned the Dainese
leathers (which I like because they make me look much slimmer than I really
am!), and wheeled out the GTS. Ignition on, crank, crank,
crank....................flat battery! So I says to the missis "c'mon love,
give us a Queensland start!". So she pushes me slightly downhill, into
second, drop the clutch...cough, cough..........and we have engine! "Ta,
love!" I say, as I go out onto our newly graded dirt road, with lots of
little pebbles resembling ball bearings. Hold the bars loosely on dirt, as
it's bound to move a little!
So, onto the bitumen, going beautifully, as always. Try the ABS..judder,
judder, yes it's working. Warmed up now..this is only a short run. What
does she actually do in 1st gear? Yes, just over our State speed limit of
100 kph (62 mph)! 2nd gear? yes, about 155kph (96 mph) (15 kph over
Licence loosing speed in this State!). But fortunately, the police don't
come out this way very often!
Why a Queensland start? If you look at a map of Oz, you'll see that NSW is
below Queensland....ie going downhill..hence the Aussie slang for a bump
start!
Hope I haven't bored you..the bike's fast enough for me, even in boring
standard form!
Regards,

Rob Chapman
