Henry - I was over there recently and saw the bike. It seems like it's in
pretty good shape. Rod Miller is keeping his eye out for a R1100R or R1100S
for me.

Subject: Well the time has come.............

Well guys, the time has come to sell my GTS. I had hoped to keep it, but I
can't. I still be riding, just a different brand of bike.

Why you ask? Well...it's the knees stupid...they just don't bend like they
used
to and I am simply so uncomfortable after 30 minutes that riding becomes
more
like torture and certainly is not fun.

I wanted certain things in a new bike:
1. ABS
2. non-integrated/non-linked brakes
3. handling like the GTS.

Those 3 requirements cut the field down pretty small. The new FJR doesn't
have
ABS, so it's out. The new ST13 has linked brakes, so it's out. Handling
like
the GTS (mainly the "no-dive" on braking feature) cuts most everything else
out...except Beemer.

Working on the Columbia MD Ride for Kids, as I have for the past 4 years,
I've
come to know Bob Henig, owner of Bob's BMW pretty well. Recently he talked
BMW
into giving a bike to him to sell, the proceeds of which would go directly
to
R4K. The bike in question is an R1100 RT-P... a police version of the
R1100RT... which came off lease from the CHP. Nice bike. I've ridden it
for
over 200 miles and though I get sore on it, it's nothing like the GTS--where
problems start to rear their ugly heads in 30 minutes or less. It has a
cool
BLACK and WHITE paint job, city cases, radio box (no radio though, damn!)
SINGLE
SEAT, crash protection bars, and a police speedometer--Beemer speedos are
notoriously inaccurate, apparently). The fun stuff--the flashing lights and
the
siren have been removed--though the heavied up electrical system, including
an
extra battery and wiring harness are still installed.
This link shows the bike, sans lettering:

I purchased it today and will pick it up next week some time. Unfortunately
I
can't keep both and after riding the RT, I've come to realize how much (and
I
hate to say this) a pig the GTS is...mainly in its weight. The RT is easy
to
throw around and the GTS isn't.

So if you know anyone who's interested in a GTS in excellent condition with
the
following, let me know!

1. for sale by Original purchaser, perhaps the last 94 in a crate in the USA
when I bought it.
2. Garage kept
3. Very low mileage: < 13,500
4. Additional equipment includes: Ventura headlight cover, Signal Dynamics
Headlight modulator, Mirror Extensions--look stock, but they're not),
Clearview
+6 wind screen (in addition to stock screen), Bill Mayer Custom Saddle, Givi
Wing Rack and 3 bags, Hyper Lites, ScottOiler, BMW fused electrical outlet,
Spiegler SS Hydraulic lines, Speed Bleeders, and a disk lock.

Oh, yes, it's blue and fast enough for most of us. The next question:
what's it
worth?
