Check the Oxygen sensor - it is in a feedback loop to control the air
fuel ratio. There is a step function going from excess oxygen (a few
millivolts) to excess fuel (1 volt). They can fail in three modes: the
zirconia can crack, the platinum electrodes can fail, or it can be a
wiring problem between the sensor and the ECM.

Subject: Re: Injector Problem

Cheese and crackers Tom! I've been around GTSs for a long time and have
NEVER heard of this problem. I would first check the obvious,
sparkplugs. What color are they? They've GOT to be black if you're
running that rich. The bike should also SOUND very different running
that rich. I would do several things. 1. Replace the plugs 2. Check the
plug wires (they screw into the plug caps) and trace them back to the
coils (ignitors). 2. Check the air filter and air box for possible
obstruction on the intake tracts. 3. (Access the ECU and write down the
position of the potentiometers) Rotate the pots on the ECU to the 7
o'clock position and crank it up. Rotate the pots clockwise to the 5
o'clock position and crank it up. Return the pots to they're original
position.

Again, the engine has GOT to sound very different running this rich.
Also, what are the chances of ALL FOUR injectors going bad at the same
time?? I don't think so! Something else is amiss here and I bet RSRBOB
can get to the bottom of it!

Don't suppose anyone's had any problems w/ their fuel injectors?

Just came back from a trip to Oregon last week.... once I hit the 5
south of the SanFran turnoff, I spent most of the next 200 miles
averaging 95-100 at a clip to just before the Grapevine (and I was in
the slow
lane!)....... Anyway, I went from averaging just over 200 miles / tank
to
70 miles .... sucked up an entire tank full from Sylmar to Fontana (at
normal speed)....

Yes, apparently sustained high speeds did not make for a happy GTS, and
now my mechanic thinks the injectors are shot... at $192 each <ouch!>
.... It's only got 18,000 miles (bummer, no warranty this time)...

Anyone out there w/ a similar experience? Or am I the only lucky one to
have it happen twice (similar problem on my other GTS re: rapid fuel
consumption, but damned if I can find the paperwork from that job six
years ago, though I'm sure I didn't have to replace the injectors).

Thanks,

-Thomas
