Well guys this is it I now have the replacement exhaust system manufactured by Renegade and Ive got to say its fantastic! Before I tell you all about it, Renegade have updated their website with details: http://www.renegade-products.com/renegade/index.html then follow the links in the left hand pane: photographs/yamaha/gts1000 this is Johns bike (details below) dyno/yamaha/gts1000 graphs, so you can see the power gains ukprices/yamaha costs for full system If you register (free) you can use the site to ask any questions.
The craftsmanship of the system is top class. I think they had their work cut out to get the downpipes into such a small area! The collector has a replacement sensor (specially manufactured), and it all links up to the original muffler. A link pipe is provided for the race can. The stainless steel is beautifully polished. The system was designed around my bike which had the belly pan in place and Nonfango luggage fitted. The centre stand bumper is retained. Cost when I was trying to gauge interest several were surprised at the costs. Personally, I feel that weve invested in keeping the GTS going! I could not believe the cost of the cat alone - it is 1 times the cost of FULL Renegade system. To replace the full system with OEM is nearly 2 times Renegade price! Jorge (Renegade) is offering a DISCOUNT for orders placed quickly (next 10 days?). It is around 40 GBP off the published prices, which represents 10% of the cost of downpipes & collector. (If you want a road legal can add 75 GBP.) I am not rich (which is why Ill buy a race can NEXT month!) but I can only recommend the investment. Ive done all the hard work for you guys, and been without my bike for 10 days. Cash in while you can! So my initial impressions (for now, I have retained the original muffler). The power gain is immediately obvious you can sense the difference as you open the throttle and pull away. As you know, the GTS engine has such a strong feel to it well now, it feels even stronger. The power delivery matches the standard all the way to 7,500 rpm so there is no loss at the bottom end, and the smoothness of delivery feels enhanced by the extra power. When I saw the dyno graphs of the original system (prior to work starting) I was impressed by the straight line of the graph; where many bikes have a small plateau at 5,500 rpm the GTS keeps going until 7,700. The next noticeable difference is how the power keeps on coming all the way to the red line and it is still smooth and strong. It really is a wonderful feeling, and very exciting! You can feel the improvement from a freer flowing engine. Jorge did many tests and said the biggest gain is from the downpipes (about 7 or 8 hp). The originals are so small and his replacements are massive in comparison. Surprisingly, the cat was the least restrictive part (3 hp gain), and the race can adds about 5 hp. Take a look at the dynos on the Renegade site. It compares the original system with full Renegade system with road legal can or race can. With the race can you can see that there is 10-15% increase in power. It is also noticeable how the original system peaks at 7,700, but the Renegade goes on to 10,000. These tests were done on Johns bike (hes a non-lister from UK). It is a stock, blue 95 model with 20,000 miles and hes had it from new. He and I watched the tests. The photos on Renegade, show Johns bike, and you can see the system in place. He chose the stainless oval race can, and told me that the sound is lovely! Its not intrusive, and he described it as you know its there its like having a friend with you, burbling gently all the way! (He had a 100 mile return trip and he clearly loved every minute of it. Incidentally, he also noticed improved mpg.) We did noise level tests on my bike too. Believe it or not there was no difference between the readings of my OEM muffler against the race can (92db). Mind you, the quality of sound is so much better! Of course, Ill retain the OEM for MOT testing. So come on guys invest in this one! Ive set the deal up, go and spend your money. Ill post further observations over the next couple of days, but then Im on leave from 17/8 so I cant answer any specific questions for 2 weeks. Robin
