OK.so I'm a smartass.I admit it.sometimes my #2 status is over powered by my wiliness to stoop to even dumbass levels!
Case in point Sunday morning (last).please all you newbies DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS FEAT OF SKILL! And.oh Mr. Hawkins.this tops Kimbles and Bits I think! My business trip to Chicago was delayed two days.so I decided to see if I could put together a series of meetings in Minneapolis instead.within 17 minutes I had six clients very excited about my being in the area on Monday. So Sunday at 2am I rose.loaded the GTS and left my cottage (some 863 miles away from MN). The day before I had co ridden with Bill Robinson (cottage neighbor and former GTS owner.sold it to move to Trinidad).Me on the SV650S.Bill on the GTS. Bill commented on how loose my vista cruise lock was.it didn't hold the throttle open tightly. Sunday morning at 4am I pulled into a lonely Petro Canada station. The lone attendant was all excited to see a customer.until I inserted my credit card into the "pay at the Pump" feature..rats no new customers to talk to now!. Filling the tank, I remembered Bill's comments about the cruise control. Taking out my handy dandy 6000 in one tool.I adjusted the clamp screw.turned the throttle wide open.it stuck in place..cool! Pump turns off.clean up the bike and hop on ready to go. NEVER START YOUR BIKE IN GEAR..NEW HAVE THE THROTTLE LOCKED IN THE FULL WIDE OPEN MODE... Start the bike..engine comes to life.pauses for a millisecond.then roars to full 12-13000rpm...Shawn reacts by taking left hand off clutch lever.thereby engaging the rear wheel (I know how to do a burn out now!) But I hold the front brake lever firm. Bike slips and slides on the dropped automotive oil at the gas pump.then proceeds to spin out from underneath me pivoting on the swing arm protector and givi bag..I highly recommend these items for saving you bikes plastic! I calmly hit the kill switch and see the attendant just turning around to catch the end of my show...well that woke me up! End result.severely bruised ego.a chuckle that lasted several hundred miles thinking about the flames you're obviously now going to embellish upon me..worried about being DA #1 besides SA#2. Great ride.Met with Steve G & Beth his SO. Great food, super hospitality (Steve knows how I'm going to repay him already!) Booked 389K in orders and quoted 8 more systems..note bad for 5 days on the road. 2067 miles later I'm home in Rochester.Kevin Hawkins.I'll be in Greensboro Sunday the 25th.meeting the 26th..then home.wanna go for a spin Sunday? Got training wheels? Your dearest Smart Ass #2 Shawn "golly do I feel embarrassed" Pearsall BTW anyone have any spare bar end weights? Lost one in WI on Sunday
