I think that your reasoning is good. Try a good tire/trye at the stock
size first and then try a 120.

I've only used 130's on my bike. My reasons, reasonable or not, are;

-greater contact patch
-better weight distribution
-Was the recommended from factory, I'm sure there was a reason
-A big tire looks really cool
-other poor and questionable reasons

Besides, I don't do much 'low' speed manuvering, and I did hear once or
twice, because the tire is 'thinner', the rim could/did/might touch the
asphalt in a very tight/leaned over turn, causing a loss of traction and
a low side. I dunno, I don't really ride that way much anyway, so I
guess that point would be moot. For me.

Anyway, I have the same tire and size on my bike, I've felt pretty good
about it, gripwise and wearwise. As mentioned before, the 130 may no
longer be available someday, so I'm doing my part to prolong that
happening by buying the 130 size whenever possible!!!
