Hi, Doug!
One thing a couple of us in the UK can tell you to look out for - the
catalytic convertor.
I discovered holes in the catalyser (collector box) 3 days before starting
a 1600-mile European tour! Prior to this I had identified a rattling
sound that I thought was caused by the muffler (silencer). Closer
investigation showed the problem to be where the downpipes joined the cat
(made of mild steel) an area prone to collect all the muck from the
front wheel and worsened by UK winter riding (salt, etc). The 2 central
pipes were the worst. Other climates may be sunnier but Id advise you
all to check for this problem!
A replacement cat is 1000+ GBP - to be avoided! However, I ended up with
a replacement from Renegade - read about it at:
http://www.torolsen.com/index1.htm
and follow the Renegade link in the left pane.
