You can't take one link out, you can only take 2,4,6 etc. That is, if you're planning to use it on your motorcycle. Yes, you need a tool. Even with a chain breaker tool it is much easier on yourself and the tool if you grind of the head of the link pin first.
Buy a link installation tool from your MC dealer. See website for typical tool: http://www.didchain.com/install.html I am assuming that you are replacing the chain and not trying to remove just one link.
