Robin,

Just re read my message to you, was obviously suffering brain fade at the
time.

The A686 route I mentioned actually starts at Haydon Bridge on the A69 west
of Hexham, which doubles the mileage to some thing like 36.

I have always gone out of my way to travel this route.A handy stopping off
and meeting place is the cafe at the top of Hartside, where on a clear day
Eden Valley is below and the Lake District is in the background.

Just a thought.
