Roger,

My GTS has only 15,000 miles. Your advise on long term maintenance tip would be
greatly appreciated. I plan on keeping mine very long time.

Regards,

Sail

John Laurenson has done a good job of describing the FJR, but if you're
really interested, sure, I'll give you some thoughts.

The FJR power is really great--a lot of torque. Handling is light and agile
compared to the GTS. It is stable at virtually any speed you want to ride,
but the GTS has a slight edge in ride/stability. One of the first things I
observed was that the FJR is a relatively small bike. It has been more of a
challenge to add the "farkles" that I have on the GTS, but I'm gettin there.

The FJR is far superior to the GTS in a parking lot and at slow speeds. I
have almost 150,000 miles on GTSs and still feel anxiety when I have to ride
at slow speeds. I don't give it a second thought on the FJR.

The shaft drive is a definite plus. I have 8,000 miles on the FJR and the
rear wheel and back of the bike is so much cleaner than the GTS (or any
chain drive).

Then there is oil consumption. In October, I ran a 24 hour endurance rally
in New Mexico. I rode 1662 miles in that 24 hour period--you do the math to
figure how fast I might have been riding. By the time I got home, I had
about 4,000 miles on that oil change and had not burned a drop. As most of
us know, the GTS would have been an entirely different story.

Bottom line: The FJR is better than the GTS in weight, handling, power, and
oil consumption. But I don't plan on getting rid of my GTS's in the
forseeable future.

I'm sure I didn't address some of the questions you might have, but
hopefully you've a better idea.

Now my dilemma. I know I'll ride the GTS to the rally in Colorado, but if I
should ride the FJR instead, anyone who wants could try it on for size.
What oh what should I do?
