I do not believe the R4 is the same family as the 5w-50. I will forward
whatever info I find.
Castrol RS is (or was) a pure synthetic with similar synthetic ester
technology to Motul. R4 may be something quite different, I'd say 'read
the label' but certainly Castrol is one of many oil brands now in the UK
who (surely deliberately) do not make it clear on the label when oils are
in fact part-mineral, not 100% synthetic. Very annoying.

 I have a complete
(essentially) barn fresh T120. It's a 1972 OIF Bonneville, with a variety
of extra parts, and I was planning to advertise it locally for about $750.
Would likley negotiate a bit with anyone from the list.
Er, how much for shipping back to England ? :-) I've got a few relatives
in California, but I wouldn't dare ask them to help out with that one!

P.S. If "original" matters less and lack of headaches matters more, and
you like the concept of a Bonnie--buy the Kawasaki imitation.
Very sound advice. Or even the Triumph imitation!

Does anyone out there know anything about Valvoline
syn. blends?
Nope, but as the subject of Brit iron has come up, I can say that Valvoline
20/50 was the oil of choice for the better informed Brit iron riders of the
seventies. Motors always seemed to run quieter and last longer (hey, it's
relative) with Valvoline - that was before synthetics were invented, of
course, way back when I was young!

The Futura [ . .] stock motor reading about 100rwhp
according to some of the dyno reports and more to be had with a exhaust
system and fuelinjection remapping
The Futura has the very complex Sagem adaptive engine management (like the
modern sports Triumphs). According to Jorge "George" from Renegade, the
Aprilia v-due Mille (up to 2002 model anyway) uses a Nippon Denso f.i.
system, the ECU of which looks just the same as the GTS one, apparently
even the circuit board looks near-identical - except that it has a socketed
EPROM instead of the soldered-in ROM!

Various teams who have raced the Mille must have the knowledge on how to
re-program the ND system, though I doubt if that knowledge will ever reach
GTS riders!
