The Caddy 4-6-8 was a nightmare for drivability and reliability - set a new low for GM which is going some.

To save fuel, right? It could be that the advances in other technologies, notably computers, simply allowed for better solutions while still allowing all the cylinders within a given engine be remain in use, negating the idea of shutting unnecessary ones down. It is actually conceivable that at some time in the future...until hydrogen power comes online, that doing some kind of shutdown of that nature might not be a bad idea. Of course, I speak without the knowledge of an engineer, so perhaps I is wrong yet agin. :-0 Henry
