Also, your paperwork list you are taking sounds fine, we were never asked for a permit or anything else when stopped numerous times, but we did not try to go across Mexico, we did San Francisco, down to Cabo and straight back up..very little riding on side roads. I would check with Mexican Embassy or website on the permit though, maybe we were lucky.
