Thor, I'm sure there will be no problem for everyone to chip in. If we do the BBQ thing I think we'd want to do it earlier so that many of us who'll be staying in Frisco that night can get back at a reasonable hour. Say maybe 1-2PM. In keeping with making it a short riding day it is only about a 140 mile roundtrip to your house from Frisco (going via Loveland pass and Hwy 6 to keep it interesting) plus there'll be the optional 40 mile sidetrip to Mt Evans. We could have a leisurely start at say 10 AM, spend 3 or 4 hours at your place and be back in Frisco by 6-7PM. Those wanting more riding can easily take in a couple of the canyons between Hwys 199 and 93. The Park or Pikes Peak are not really an option unless we want to add a lot of miles and time.
Where do you live in Golden? As for Mount Evans VS Pikes Peak VS Trail Ridge Road...I dont care..colorado is beautiful.... Pikes Peak would be 1 1/2 hours south of my house. (on I-25 with good traffic--which it is often not--easily gridlocked from CastleRock/Parker all the way to C-470) My first choice would be TrailRidge. (havent been up there for 3 years) Trail Ridge Road requires a park fee..i believe 5-6 dollars for motorcycles, slow beautiful ride. (but who wants to speed in such a wonderful place) You will eventually hit Estes Park to Lyons/Boulder HWY 93 will take you right to my house in Golden. Mount Evans/ Echo Lake/Evergreen/Conifer is a beautiful ride, That will eventually drop you down somewhere on HWY 285, 285 to C470 North to I-70 E to Ward Rd. is the way to my house. Or you can follow the route from Georgetown up to EchoLake into Golden, Into the backroads of Bergen Park, Pick up the Frontage road on I-70 follow that to the HWY 6 junction...that takes you to the HWY 58/HWY93/HWY6 junction....2 miles from my house. I dont mind hosting the BBQ....but it will be expensive for 30-40 people..I will by the main course(brats and chicken or fish) and my homebrew beer, but if you guys could chip in for chips, potato salad, paper plates etc...that would help out my budget. I have ample parking for the bikes...a nice asphalt pad on the south...enough for twenty well parked bikes. Or we can just line them up on the road. The choice of the ride depends on when you want to have the BBQ....5pm? still 4 hours of sunlight? or earlier? And those of you who may be staying in the denver metro area that night...there are alot of affordable motels located on 44th Ave/I-70 within 2 miles of my house. --Bet im going to need a new set of tires soon.
