Hi all,
Just saw guadec-beta.gnome.org. Looking pretty good. Some random
thoughts here.
Good things about the site:
- Sidebar
* Feed from guadec-list -- that's pretty awesome
- Appears to be easy to create and edit pages
Places we can improve:
- Sidebar
* user ops probably don't need to be on top of the list -- not
frequently used
* absorb top guadec navbar into sidebar? just a thought
- Space
* lots of space is occupied by boilerplate: the gnome banner at the
top, a subbanner for guadec, the sidebar, the view/edit tabs, the
heading, the wiki Home >> Guadec 2006 bar... need to shrink this
probably via CSS -- more like live.gnome.org with a sidebar
- urls
* guadec.org/?q=about should be seen as guadec.org/about -- these
mod_rewrite rules, dropped into .htaccess, will fix that I think:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^([^?]+)$ /?q=$1 [QSA]
- toplevel page should give a feeling of a static intro to guadec, with
only part of it being devoted to recent news -- e.g. something like
http://guadec-beta.gnome.org/?q=guadec2006, but with news; also how
does one edit the toplevel page?
Thoughts? Who is actually doing this, qgil and stro?
