Well at a high level the two conferences are quite different. LUGRadioLive is
more like FOSDEM (it's not really *like* anything but you know what I mean).
The range of topics they covered last year went from building a MAME cabinet,
RoR, package formats, openstreetmap, 'open source' comic strips, and an
analysis of the fequency of swear words in LUGRadio, i.e. the most broad range
of topics you might find in a LUG meeting.

So I'm not that concerned about attracting papers - given the broad range of
topics I would guess there would only be a small amount of potential space for
Guadec type topics (I hope some Gnome related stuff is submitted there and I
plan to help man the Gnome booth like last year).

I'm not that concerned about punters - the two complement each other and just
make July more Free software friendly. LRL is at the weekend, our core days are
Tue, Wed, Thur, so I don't think LRL will force people to choose which days to
take off work.

My only slight concern is supply of volunteers - the LUGRadio guys are the
masters of community and typically have a excellent enthusiatic crew. However
having said that the interests of the volunteers is as broad as LRL but bound
together by the LUGRadio community (so possibly wouldn't have helped at Guadec
anyway).

We'll just have to wait and see - there isn't a lot we can do about it, neither
of us can change plans now. From our planning meeting at the weekend it seems
the initial flow of papers was quite good. Sponsors are starting to commit.
It's going well.

Also there are oppurtunities for marketing - I've talked to Jono about doing a
slot on the podcast to promote Guadec, once we open registration. I've also
talked to them (briefly) about doing podcasts through Guadec, but I plan to
work them harder than you did last year ;-) Plus, we'll have a Gnome booth,
hopefully posters and flyers and I'll try and grab some stage time.

Are the any particular concerns you had?

Paul
