I am excited to share a new "mini app" project we've been working, trying to create some new, simple, focused tools that solve a single issue. OpenArchive is one of these, and is a project founded by Natalie Cadranel, begun as a Knight Foundation prototype grant in 2014, with work the core work done by the StoryMaker/Scal.io team initially. It is now stable and ready for testing, and does one thing: it makes it easy and secure to publish photos, video and audio on the Internet Archive, over Orbot/Tor if you have it.
*** OpenArchive is a free, open-source mobile application dedicated to maintaining the privacy, provenance, and preservation of your media. It enables you to add metadata and Creative Commons licensing to your audiovisual media and then send it to the Internet Archive over Tor; offering more agency over your media, while protecting civil liberties, and increasing interoperability for those who want to find and reuse/remix it in the future. OpenArchive is developed in partnership with the Internet Archive, StoryMaker, Scal.io, and Guardian Project. The project was founded by Natalie Cadranel with generous support from the Knight Foundation's Prototype Fund. *** Beyond what the app does today, we have some big ideas for the future, that I hope some of you can contribute to: https://github.com/OpenArchive/openarchive/milestones/Future%20Coolness Otherwise, all the fun links below: Github: https://github.com/OpenArchive/openarchive Signed release APK: https://github.com/OpenArchive/openarchive/releases/tag/0.0.9-APK-release Play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.opendasharchive.openarchive.release Let me know what you think! -- Nathan of Guardian [email protected] _______________________________________________ List info: https://lists.mayfirst.org/mailman/listinfo/guardian-dev To unsubscribe, email: [email protected]
