Ok, so everything out there is still based on android aosp.
That consortium of companies (google, telecoms, hardware)
having done the original major port work of linux into android.
With groups like cyanogen and replicant then modifying aosp.

I was thinking that due to the linux and bsd kernels having growing
support for various ARM cores, there might now be new projects
that are taking say the kernel.org or freebsd.org kernels of today
and creating entirely new ground up kernel ports and ecosystems
for phab devices (ie: not having roots in aosp).
