Another option could require constant connection with the 'net, over say a Tor phone-in server. If the connection isn't present for $time, require password. If password isn't typed in, phone reboots and you get 30 chances of bootup password.
That way, it would be hard to attack the tor server. And it would be hard to spoof the Tor connection to fake-authenticate. And no BTLE or other physical devices needed - those can be stolen anyway by "bad actors".
