F-Droid and Guardian Project have been working with Weblate to make a really smooth translation workflow for Android apps, including all the app store descriptive texts. There has been much progress the translation workflow for the app store metadata texts (short description, full description, "What's New", etc), and we now have a complete integrated workflow between Google Play, F-Droid, Weblate and app developers. The Weblate developers had a key breakthrough that lets this whole workflow use the same files everywhere. We originally thought that an extra layer of XLIFF files would be required, with scripts to convert between XLIFF and the F-Droid/Fastlane/Triple-T formats.
This is part of the "Linguine" cross-project effort to improve translation workflows, with Weblate being a key component. Weblate is tracking related work here: https://github.com/WeblateOrg/weblate/projects/10#card-13951185 Here are some apps that are now setup with this new workflow: Checkey https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/guardianproject/checkey https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/guardianproject/checkey-metadata https://gitlab.com/guardianproject/checkey.git (GitLab, not GitHub) CircleOf6 https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/guardianproject/circleof6 https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/guardianproject/circleof6-metadata https://github.com/guardianproject/OpenCircle.git F-Droid https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/f-droid/f-droid https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/f-droid/f-droid-metadata/ Haven https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/guardianproject/haven https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/guardianproject/haven-metadata https://github.com/guardianproject/haven.git Location Privacy https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/guardianproject/locationprivacy https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/guardianproject/locationprivacy-metadata https://github.com/guardianproject/locationprivacy.git Ripple https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/guardianproject/ripple https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/guardianproject/ripple-metadata https://github.com/guardianproject/ripple.git I think this Weblate support is worth switching for. For translating app store texts on other translation platforms, I recommend keeping the app store texts in XLIFF format, then using our script to convert to F-Droid/Fastlane file format and then commit those to the project's git. Here you can compare the XLIFF (with conversion script): https://github.com/guardianproject/LocationPrivacy/tree/fad6ec142c65694a7b4cfacd32bb1e57e38c386e/description to the native F-Droid/Fastlane/Weblate format: https://github.com/guardianproject/LocationPrivacy/tree/master/metadata .hc -- PGP fingerprint: EE66 20C7 136B 0D2C 456C 0A4D E9E2 8DEA 00AA 5556 https://pgp.mit.edu/pks/lookup?op=vindex&search=0xE9E28DEA00AA5556 _______________________________________________ List info: https://lists.mayfirst.org/mailman/listinfo/guardian-dev To unsubscribe, email: [email protected]
