The default settings are okay for you. Linux is secure by default, so a
firewall is really only for some special cases. You're good to go, just
remember to log out when you're done banking / shipping and don't click
on suspicious links.
- is there a need for any antivirus software, just like what i had in
windows xp ?
No, there isn't any - there are no viruses that are infecting any Linux
computers en masse. Many reasons for this, but you're quite fine as it
is.
