<!-- << 1. Exchange 2010 is here - good times ahead!
Welcome to the October 2009 edition of the MSE Newsletter! Many of you
probably agree with me that this has been a great month right? I mean
with Exchange 2010 RTM'd, can it be much better? Before you know it,
you will be able to download the Exchange 2010 RTM evaluation version
from Microsoft.com, MSDN, TechNet, or via the SA site if you have such
a subscription.

As Exchange consultants/admins, we can start doing proof of concepts
(PoCs) in order to show the real value of Exchange 2010 to the
enterprises and organizations around the world. It is not a secret that
many of them still run Exchange 2003 (for different reasons). However,
this time they should seriously consider upgrading their Exchange
infrastructure. Not only does Exchange 2010 include a lot of great new
features as well as improvements over existing ones, but this Exchange
Server version also fits perfectly with a time where many organizations
and enterprises are affected by the global financial crisis that has
been hitting the world the last couple of years.

Why switch to Exchange 2010 in a time like this? Well, I think there
are several reasons. First, Exchange 2010 is a perfect application to
virtualize using Microsoft Hyper-V, VMware vSpere (ESX 4.0) or another
virtualization solution. In addition, Exchange 2010 includes
significant storage optimizations, which means that you, for instance,
can use desktop-like SATA 7200 disks for both Exchange databases and
the associated log streams. Moreover, Exchange 2010 is a very flexible
product which results in improved efficiency within the organization or
enterprise. Finally, Exchange 2010 includes an archiving solution that
would be more than sufficient for many.

To see the many changes and improvements included with this latest and
greatest Exchange server version – Exchange 2010, I recommend you check
out this link.

6. Ask Henrik Walther a question
QUESTION:

One thing I really missed in Exchange 2007 (that we had in Exchange
2003) was the option of being able to show the size of the mailboxes in
a column when listing the mailboxes in the Exchange Management Console.

Has this changed with Exchange 2010?

ANSWER:

You know what? Yes it is, even with Exchange 2010 it is still not
possible to see the mailbox size in a column when listing mailboxes in
the Exchange Management Console. The Exchange Product group's thinking
is that retrieving this kind of information should be done via the
Exchange Management Shell.

But I do know that many do not agree with this thinking. Such a basic
feature should really be included in the EMC. And if it will result in
a long load time when listing many mailboxes in the EMC, make it an
optional column that can be added as/if needed.

Well, the good thing is that a design change request (DCR) has been
submitted to the Exchange Product group, so who knows, we may see this
feature when we reach Exchange 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1).
