initially symbolizes data in the spacing and the widths of parallel
lines. It can also be referred to as linear or one dimensional
symbologies. The first application of barcodes was to mechanize grocery
checkout systems. It has become more or less universal today. Their
application has extended to numerous other functions as well. These are
generally referred to as Auto ID Data Capture.
