I remember seeing the boot for the first time a few months ago at the trade launch and thought that they were that little bit special but then again for that price they would have to be! I have had a chance to try these boots on and to give you my honest opinion of what they are really like. Sizing & Breaking In I tried on a Uk size 8 in these and even though just looking at the boot I thought that they were going to be way to small they actually fitted very well and, these fit true to size. what I was surprised with was the fit as they have a real Pro feel about them as they mold to the shape of my foot and as you bend the forefoot there is No pressure of the upper digging in across the top of your foot. The Superfly II FG boots are lightweight boot and felt good as soon as i put them on, I have have tried on the Vapor boots in the past and always thought that they were a little clumpy, but not these they are literally like Slippers!!.The thing what I have learnt off our Customers data base is that the Mercurial Vapor has got a fantastic following and there are people that buy all the colourways and have done since the old Ronaldo R9 boots of 98 ! Design The most awaited thing about the boot was how Nike were going to take the Vapor SL onto the next level. This design of the Superfly makes the old SL look a little bit like a Pastie on your foot !, it is very streamline and the duel colour sole give the boot a great look. Nike have also gone to town on the Launch colourway, Purple/Orange/Navy on paper just does not work, but when you actually see the boot and the way that they have incorporated them, its a great choice. The visabilty of this boot on the pitch is superb, The Blocked style in the inside of the boot gives the boot a great contrast and styles it well with the Speed concept. Company Logo Placement It was nice to see that Nike have taken a step back with the placement of the swoosh back onto the the side of the boot moving around the side of the laces, I think this is much better than when it was moved into a box on the outside toe for the Mercurial Vapor V Football boot. A smaller swoosh has been incorperated on the instep of the boot which again contrasts well on the Navy crazt paving! Technology In developing NIKE SENSE adaptive traction technology, designers created an adaptive stud that can extend and retract by up to 3mm, based on ground conditions and pressure exerted by the player. Directionally positioned blades maximize cutting and allow for quick changes of direction, while secondary toe traction provides added toe-off power for those first critical steps. The result is a boot that enables greater speed in all directions. Nike's design and engineering teams talked with some of the fastest players in the world, who emphasized that acceleration around a defender is just as important as beating him in a straight line. The Nike Sports Research Lab researched the world championship finals in 2006 and found that there were 845 slipping events over 63 games, or roughly 14 per game. Building on these insights, the Nike team collaborated closely with elite athletes including Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexandre Pato to create a boot that enables toe-off acceleration and minimizes slippage in game-changing situations. "For me, it's all about first-step acceleration, but twisting and turning around a defender is also important," Cristiano Ronaldo said. "The Mercurial Vapor Superfly II helps me do both, so I can beat my opponent and create scoring opportunities." Negatives The first thing that stands out on this boot is the Price £274.99 !!!, Ouch!, But the explination is that it is the top of the range boot and only a £30 more expencive than Puma’s Limited Edition Ferrari boot from last year which was in my opinion not worth £100. The tlask about the 3mm retractable studs is hard to see as its such a small movement that you cant see how it works, But I will leave that to the scientist’s. Final Thoughts When any company introduces a new boot there is always high expectations and some dont live up to the hype, Nike have got this spot on and from the looks to the fit its a very good boot for the speed player and one that even though the price is very high, i have been amazed on how many we have sold so far. the player uptake that I have seen on TV has been superb and it seems that every goal that is hitting the net in both the Premiership and the Champions league is coming from these boots. Who Will you see wearing them? Cristiano Ronaldo - Real Madrid & Portugal Nani - Manchester United & Portugal Craig Bellamy - Manchester City & Wales Nic Bendtner - Arsenal & Denmark Franck Ribery -Bayern Munich & France Nike Superfly II Rating (out of 10) Style 10 Performance 9 Comfort 9 Technology 10 Product Placement 10 Durability 8 Accuracy 8 Innovation 10 Support 7 Value 7 Overall Score: 88 (out of 100) Nike Superfly II FG Football Boots available now at Lovell Soccer You are subscribed to email updates from Lovell Soccer - Soccer Blog To stop receiving these emails, you may unsubscribe now.
