Russell Crowe is in the running to play Superman’s father in Man of
Steel.

The actor is said to be in negotiations for the role of Jor-El, the
lead character’s biological dad, in the upcoming remake of the
superhero movie titled Superman: Man of Steel. British actor Henry
Cavill will play the title role in the picture, which is being
directed by Zack Snyder.

Jor-El is a pivotal character in the movie, and was played by Marlon
Brando in the 1978 original. He is the man who sends Superman to earth
in order to save him, as his birth planet Krypton is being destroyed.

Variety confirms Russell is in talks for the part, although no further
details are currently available.

Superman: Man of Steel already has a host of A-list names attached.
Kevin Costner and Diane Lane will play Superman's adoptive parents,
while Amy Adams was recently unveiled as the new Lois Lane. Michael
Shannon has landed the villainous role of General Zod.

The movie is scheduled for release in December 2012. (C) Cover Media
