writing skills, said Katy Piotrowski, an author of career books and a
career counselor based in Fort Collins, Colo. You can also tailor them to a
specific company in ways that you cannot with a résumé.
The cover letter is your first – and possibly, only – opportunity to engage
a prospective employer. It
is a key marketing tool to convince the employer to take the time to look
at your resume. Think of it
as “bait” that you are using to “hook” the reader.
