Yes it seems you're right, thanks.

gnu/packages/golang.scm says:

    As of go-1.5, go cannot be bootstrapped without go-1.4, so we need
    to use go-1.4 or gccgo-5.

So that sounds like more work/more steps, but still sweet milky
