I suspect Python is only needed for relatively recent versions of glibc, but still.
Its NEWS file states since 2.29, which was released already in January 2019.
As for the other tools (coreutils, sed, gawk, etc.), I wonder if these are needed due to deficiencies or missing features in their Gash-Utils counterpart.
I fixed¹² some bugs via substitute* and noted down many remaining issues³⁴. I worked around some of these⁵⁶⁷⁸⁹¹⁰ in dependent packages. But whenever a fix or work-around got too complicated/annoying/time-consuming, I switched to the original package.
