FWIW, i fully agree. but then it doesn't seem to be of much worth around here,
so don't take my opinion as meaningful support.
i worked on smartening up `define-configuration` some time ago. i wrote complex
services using it, but then i decided to just revert back to a hashtable and a
thin API with 1-to-1 mapping to the daemon's config, for the same reasons you
listed in your mail.
given how i feel about this topic, i must have written my own version of your
mail a couple of years ago.
