In addition to all the arguments already said in this thread, I would
also mention that building from ’git-fetch’ source code removes an
indirection when the source code disappears from its original location.

I mean, it’s easier to replace an URL and/or reconstruct a flat
repository that matches than to rebuild a compressed tarball; as
Disarchive is doing.
