Gentoo linux replaced eudev with udev after it became possible to install udev without systemd.
After gentoo linux abandoned eudev, eudev has been unmaintained. I don't think one of the goals of guix is to avoid any contact with anything in systemd codebase. Nobody maintains eudev. It's time to replace eudev with udev. Or, eudev will break on desktop systems at some point. eudev is not going to last long without maintenance. Replacing eudev with udev is the only practical path for now. A real alternative to udev can be developed later if someone wants to develop such a thing.
