It seems like it is nearly possible to use "guix system vm" to debug the linux-libre kernel. A similar process may also be possible for gnumach.
One terminal could build a VM with $ guix system vm some-linux-libre-os.scm -s -S (where -s and -S pause evaulation and wait for a gdb connection) And another could connect, load the symbols, etc $ gdb /gnu/store/path/to/vmlinux (gdb) target remote :1234 (gdb) lx-symbols (gdb) b ... However, there seem to be a few things missing: - CONFIG_GDB_SCRIPTS is not set - vmlinux is not available in build outputs - make scripts_gdb is not run in build process - source files are not available with build outputs It seems like a natural solution may be to add a linux-libre-*-debug target or the corresponding gnumach-*. Is anyone already able to use guix system vm to build a debuggable virtual machine for linux-libre or gnumach? If not, would the community be interested in either of these features? Is there a simpler solution to use guix system vm to build a debug kernel? Dan
