The Goan Welfare Association, Qatar is celebrating World Goa Day 2004 with an eucharistic mass offered by GWA on 20th August at 7.00 a.m. at the American School of Doha followed by a Blood Donation Camp. The event will be orgainsed in co-ordination with the Hamad Medical Corporation. The Blood Donation Camp will be held at the Blood Bank, Hamad Medical Corporation at 3.30 p.m.
Each year on August
20th, Goans world wide celebrate
World GOA DAY. On GOA DAY, Goans
remember 1992, when the two Houses of the Indian Parliament unanimously voted
and approved an amendment to include the mother tongue Konkani in the eight
schedule of the Constitution of India, thus according it national status. It is
also a day where Goans world-wide join in SOLIDARITY to celebrate being a
GOAN.
Mr. Rene Barretto, Overall Convenor of the event from U.K., says, "On Goa Day thousands of Goans will once again remind themselves of the need to work to preserve the culture, music, history, language, cuisine, and art for our children, the non-Goan community, and for posterity".
