Panaji, Sept 2: Coach Fernando Abranches of Verna died this morning following a massive heart attack. He was 59 and leaves behind his wife and three children. His funeral will be held tomorrow at 4 p.m. to Verna Church.
Abranches was a familar face at Verna church grounds being deeply involved in coaching the youth. He shot into limelight, first as the coach of Mandovi Shipyard, a former First Division team and then as the coach of Agasaim Youth Club. The soft-spoken coach was of late involved with Verna Sports Club, having been its secretary for the past three years.
For Abranches, football coaching was a passion, his involvement in training being of a very high order. He was also a social worker and easily accessible to those in need. (www.navhindtimes.com)
