5th October 2004 - THE HINDU (PTI): World Phone Internet Services Pvt. Ltd., today launched its World Phone Premium international calling cards for Maharashtra and Goa circles, which would enable users to make calls to Western Europe, US and Asean countries at less than Rs 3 per minute. "The Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) card enables users to make international calls from his personal computer, or other VoIP-enabled devices," World Phone Chairman, Aditya Ahluwalia, told reporters here today. The calls to US would be charged at Rs 1.60 per minute, that to Canada would be Rs 1.70 per minute, and to UK would entail a fee of Rs two per minute, he said.
It can also be used to make calls to Germany (Rs 2), France (Rs 2.20 per minute), Australia (Rs 2.50), Singapore (Rs 2.50), Italy (Rs 2.75), New Zealand (Rs 2.75), South Korea (Rs 3.10), China, Japan and Russia (Rs 3.50), Taiwan (Rs 3.60) and Saudi Arabia (Rs 8.00), he said. The card, which is being launched in technological tie-up with US-based VoIP calling service provider Go2Call, is available in denominations of Rs 100, Rs 250, Rs 500 and Rs 1,000, he said.
World Phone is also planning to appoint 30 distributors, who would be recruiting 20 retailers each in these states for the sales of the cards, he said. The company had earlier launched these cards in Delhi, and has been receiving over four million minutes per year, he said adding, World Phone expects to garner a similar number of minutes from Maharashtra and Goa.
