Optimising State Revenue
WITHIN the next fortnight, the Goa government�s
Secretariat will stand shifted to the new legislative
cum secretariat complex at Alto-Betim (wrongly called
Alto-Porvorim). Various suggestions regarding the
utilisation of the vacant premises called Adil Shah�s
palace, have been made by the people, namely to set up
a museum on the lines of the world famous Salarjang
museum in Hyderabad, old-age home etc. By no stretch
of imagination it can be turned into a Salarjang
museum as the artifacts exposed in the said museum are
a collection of worldwide artifacts acquired by one of
the trusted lieutenant of the late Nizam of Hyderabad
which we do not have in Goa. Regarding the
transformation of the premises into a house for Goa�s
senior citizens is totally misconceived in as much as
the said premises is not fit for such a purpose at all
as the senior citizens will have to face untold
hardships, like climbing the steps, uncongenial
atmosphere, location in a busy central place etc. The
said premises is neither fit for a museum nor an
old-age home. We would like to suggest to the
government to utilise the area by shifting some of the
offices like the congested civil cum sub registrar,
Tiswadi, on the ground floor as well as the offices
functioning in the hired premises for which lakhs of
rupees are spent every month, and the money thus saved
could be utilised to repair the roads etc which are in
very bad shape.
