Jaipal Reddy, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, to Inaugurate the First Ever Film Bazaar Organised by CII, Concurrently with the IFFI

Panaji, Goa, India, Thursday, November 25, 2004 -- (Business Wire India)
A first time ever on this scale and size, The Film Bazaar is part of CII's initiative on the development and globalisation of Indian entertainment industry. The Film Bazaar is being organised by CII in association with Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India and National Films Development Corporation (NFDC), with active support from the Government of Goa, from 30th November - 8th December, 2004 concurrently with International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2004 at the Kala Academy, Panjim.

Film Bazaar 2004 will harness the immense potential demonstrated by the Indian Film Industry to take its place in the global arena. This Bazaar is intended to be the catalyst in the process of globalization of Indian Cinema, which unites the creative and the financial aspects of filmmaking.

The Indian Film Industry is poised at a heady juxtaposition between Reawakening and Experimentation. CII aims to create in Film Bazaar 2004, a space which allows for negotiation between the filmmaker and the financier. This negotiation is not restricted to domestic players. Film Bazaar is a platform, whereby members of the international film fraternity descend on India. Co-productions, Joint-creative endeavours, Sharing of technology take center-stage and superficial differences fade away. CII's Film Bazaar 2004 is a significant milestone in the journey from pre-production to Distribution of film.

The multiplex expansion and the mushrooming of fiercely active Film-societies and Filmmaking courses in India have created a new generation of producers, directors, editors, actors and distributors. The language of Film and film making has entered the mainstream, particularly with the recognition accorded to Bollywood as an Industry, In addition, this industry has found an audience that ranges beyond geographical boundaries, beyond the Indian Diaspora to find a truly Global Audience.

Thus Film Bazaar 2004 seeks to invite Buyers from around the world whose focus includes Indian Cinema. These include film-brokers and representatives of Production houses who seek to invest in joint ventures. Around 20 international buyers from UK, USA, Romania, Brazil, Mauritius, Paris & Sri Lanka have already confirmed to attend Film Bazaar 2004 and we expect many more to visit.

The Indian sub-continent plays host to a variety of Film festivals through the year, most of who include a film market. In addition most major international Film Festivals have an Asian retrospective which perpetuates this growing interest in Asian Cinema. Film Bazaar 2004 will see representatives of these festivals visit the market to understand and assimilate the economics that drive film making in the region.

The region has been identified has a film maker's haven in recent times. It boasts of relatively lower shooting costs, affordable, state-of-the-art post-production facilities and picturesque locales. Film Bazaar offers a meeting ground to allow producers access to these benefits, and is located, quite aptly, amidst the panoramic beauty that is Goa.

Film Bazaar 2004 is between the 30th of November and the 8th of December 2004. This eight-day event during the International Film Festival of India offers a dynamic environment to network and discuss new projects. A conference on the 'Globalization Of Indian Entertainment Industry', scheduled during the Festival explores the path the Indian Industry is adopting in it's quest to becoming a global player. CII's Film Bazaar 2004, Goa is a touchstone for the Industry in this quest.
