� Dr Jayant Budkule, registrar of Goa University, has
said that a writer should present a high valued
literature or else there would be a stagnation in
Konkani literature. The quality of literature is
equally important along-with the quantum. Dr Jayant
Budkule was delivering a talk at a literary award
presentation ceremony held at Konkani Kala Sahitya
Kendra, Curchorem.
The recipients of the literary awards were:
- Ravindra Kelekar (Janganga Sahitya Puraskar) for his
book Amorer;
- Suresh Amonkar (late Sham R S Kakodkar Memorial
Translation Award) for his valuable contribution in
translation field of Konkani literature;
- and veteran Konkani activist Kamalakar Mhalshi (late
Ramnath Matha Memorial award) for his book Laksha in
children literature.
Dr Jayant Budkule further said that the literature of
a writer should have an impact upon the reader; his
writing should make him think and ponder upon the
situations. He said that by following the steps of the
�today�s awardees, the youth should start writing
right now.�
He said Nimno Porob, written by late Devidas Baboy, a
person from Curchorem, has enough of material in it to
kindle the spirit of the reader.
Unluckily he died at a young age or else he would have
enriched the Konkani literature. Konkani writers
should write such qualitative literature, he added.
Ravindra Kelekar said that when the Konkani movement
was passing through a difficult period, people like
late Janardan Kudchadkar stood by Konkani and
supported the movement. He said he felt honoured to
receive an award named after him and his wife
Gangabai.
Suresh Amonkar said, he is the grandson of this
locality. During his childhood he used to come to
Curchorem at his grandmother�s place to spend his
vacation. �At that time she taught me the art of
choosing the opportunities. Even today I realise the
importance of her valuable advise.� Mr Kamalakar
Mhalshi said that he would be handing over the award
money to Kankon Konkani Kendra for fruitful use.
